What does a van kitchen really need? Less than you’d think, as long as each piece pulls its weight. We cooked in our Promaster full time for 5 years. We don’t live in it full time anymore, but we still cook in it on trips, now with our baby. In this post we’re sharing the kitchen gear that made the cut and still works today.

The fridge

Our Dometic CFX3 75 fridge is the heart of the kitchen. It’s a dual zone, so one side can be a fridge and the other a freezer. It also does double duty as a step up to our bed, for us and for Penelope (our dog), who can get on and off whenever she wants.

We cook on a Duxtop induction cooktop.

Our cast iron is a small 8-inch Lodge skillet with the matching Lodge cast iron lid.

Yes, there’s a Vitamix in our van kitchen!

Sink and storage

Faucet

The pull-out faucet and sink

Our brushed nickel bar faucet pulls out, which makes rinsing dishes in a tiny sink so much easier. The exact one we installed is no longer sold, and the closest match is this CREA pull-out bar faucet. Behind it is a sea glass peel-and-stick backsplash. No grout, no mess.

Food storage

Qinline reusable bags are a lot more affordable than Stasher bags and we can personally recommend them. For leftovers, we use glass food containers with lids.

The outdoor kitchen

At camp, we set up our Trekology camp table and CLIQ camping chair outside.

Recap

  1. Spend your money on the fridge first.
  2. Keep cookware small and tough.
  3. A pull-out faucet makes a tiny sink a lot easier.
  4. Use reusable storage that seals.
  5. Set up a table and chair outside and enjoy it!
